Community Coalition Against a Pulse Museum

About Us

The Community Coalition Against a Pulse Museum (CCAPM) is a group of surviving victims, family members of victims, activists, and scholars who have banded together to fight against the onePULSE Foundation's privatized memorial and museum complex.

Our position is:

  • Mass shootings should never be turned into money-making business endeavors by business owners or private nonprofits.

  • The 49 victims of the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub should be honored with a public memorial park, not a privately-owned mass murder spectacle.

  • Money raised in the name of the mass shooting should go to the continued care of survivors, not pay for the six-figure salaries of the OnePULSE Foundation's executives.

  • Mass shootings should not be used for area tourism or to fund community infrastructure projects. The OnePULSE Foundation should not be eligible for additional tourism development tax (TDT) grants from Orange County. Local LGBTQIA+ nonprofits should not use the Pulse shooting to increase their revenues, gain access to space, or solicit donations that do not go directly to Pulse victims/survivors.

  • Museum exhibitions that serve as propaganda for the Pulse nightclub owners, the City of Orlando, and law enforcement—rather than accurately portraying the documented facts and ongoing struggles—are an injustice to Pulse victims/survivors. The Pulse Nightclub shooting should not be sanitized, Disneyfied, pink-washed, or whitewashed.

  • Pulse Nightclub owners should be held accountable for the unpermitted renovations and code violations that hindered the escape and rescue of shooting victims, rather than personally profit from a tragedy that was exacerbated by their illegal business decisions.

  • The City of Orlando should also be held accountable for its continued failure to enforce the law and bring the business into compliance. The Office of the Mayor, in particular, has sought to cover up these code violations and has refused to answer questions related to these issues.
